Aluminum Wire

Aluminum or Electrical Wire

Factors that affect the price

Cleanliness: The highest value is for clean, bare wire with all insulation and other materials removed.
Insulation: EC wire can be sold in different forms.

-- Clean/Bare wire: Highest value.
-- Insulated wire: Typically worth less. For example, insulated aluminum wire/neoprene sells for less than clean EC wire.

Local market: Scrap prices vary significantly by location and time, so it's important to check current prices with local scrap yards.

Type of scrap: EC wire is a specific type of aluminum wire. Other types of aluminum scrap will have different prices.

How to maximize the value of your EC wire scrap

Clean it thoroughly: Remove all insulation and other debris to get the highest price.

Strip larger wires: Stripping larger wires (the size of your finger or bigger) is generally worthwhile. For smaller pieces, the effort may not be worth the potential increase in value, unless you have a stripping machine.

Know the difference: When talking to a scrapyard, be clear about the type of wire you have. For example, you can ask about the price for "clean EC wire" to distinguish it from insulated wire.

Do not mix with steel: Keep steel wire separate, as it has a much lower value and will be categorized differently by scrap yards
